Danielle Blade and Stephen Gartner
.
Gartner Blade Glass represents the creative partnership of Danielle Blade and Stephen Gartner, who have been collaborating since 1996. Together, they merge vision, technique, and experience to create extraordinary works in both blown and sculpted hot glass.
Their ongoing body of work explores the spiritual and ritualistic nature of vessels and sculptural forms, inspired by objects revered in both ancient and contemporary cultures. Each piece reflects their shared fascination with the symbolic and sacred — transforming ideas of worship and ritual into modern glass expressions.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world, elements such as bone, wood, vine, and rock formations intertwine with a distinctive, organic color palette to define their signature aesthetic. Through this fusion of traditional glassblowing craftsmanship and innovative sculpting techniques, Gartner Blade Glass creates works that feel timeless, tactile, and alive.
Originally from the Isle of Wight, UK, Danielle Blade grew up immersed in glass art as the daughter of British glass artist Martin Evans. After completing her apprenticeship at Isle of Wight Glass, she moved to the United States in 1985, where she studied under leading American and European glass artists and worked as both a gaffer and instructor.
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, and raised in the American South and Naples, Italy, Stephen Gartner began his artistic career with borosilicate glass, developing innovative techniques that brought new creative potential to hot glass. His experience as a glassblowing instructor and studio gaffer helped shape the collaborative foundation that became Gartner Blade Glass.
Today, their studio continues to produce exceptional hand-blown and sculpted glass art, collected and exhibited worldwide.
We are proud to collaborate with Gartner Blade Glass at Artisans of New York, sharing their visionary creations with our community of glass art collectors and admirers. Through this partnership, their captivating works find a new home — where craftsmanship, culture, and contemporary design meet.
